Buru Energy (ASX:BRU) has unveiled a new deep gas prospect named Flying Fox, located directly beneath its existing Rafael gas and condensate field in WA’s Canning Basin. Identified via 3D seismic analysis, Flying Fox holds an estimated 60–614 Bscf of unrisked prospective gas resources (P50: 247 Bscf) and up to 12.6 MMstb of condensate (P50: 5.0 MMstb), making it comparable in scale to Rafael’s current contingent resources. Positioned 500 m below the planned Rafael B appraisal well, it can be efficiently tested alongside ongoing development. While Buru’s immediate focus remains on commercialising Rafael—with drilling targeted for Q2 2026 and first gas by late 2027—Flying Fox presents a significant upside opportunity, potentially extending production and improving project economics as part of the Rafael LNG Project with Clean Energy Fuels Australia.
