Environmental Cadets Graduate

In 2013, Buru Energy in partnership with the Kimberley Training Institute (KTI), established an environmental cadetship program as a means of creating jobs and building skills amongst local communities. In December 2014, seven of our environmental cadets graduated with a Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management from KTI. Four of the completed cadets were from Noonkanbah community while three were from the Yawuru community around Broome.

During the course, the cadets were trained in plant surveys, animal surveys, GPS and mapping, fire management and natural area restoration. Cadets have also received on the job training through assisting with the Company’s environmental monitoring programs including rehabilitation monitoring, groundwater monitoring and Bilby surveying. These employment opportunities will continue for the cadets and will assist us to incorporate valuable traditional knowledge of country into our environmental studies. We wish to congratulate all of our cadets and wish them success in their future work, either with the company or in their own endeavors.
